Sister projects
TALISSMAN
TALISSMAN (Technologies for Advanced Lithium-Sulphur batteries toward Safe and Sustainable Mobility Applications) is a sister project also developing Generation 5 lithium-sulphur batteries under Horizon Europe. Whilst ANGeLiC focuses on ALD/MLD-protected battery technologies, TALISSMAN advances gelled and solid-state battery concepts targeting aerospace and electromobility applications, aiming for energy densities up to 550 Wh/kg. Together, both projects contribute to establishing Europe's leadership in next-generation battery technology.
HighMag
HighMag is a parallel Generation 5 battery project exploring an alternative chemistry to lithium-based systems, focusing on rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs) for mobility applications. The project develops two innovative battery systems: a magnesium-sulphur battery with a conversion cathode and a magnesium metal battery with an insertion cathode. Both systems comprise a protected powder-based magnesium anode addressing the need for sustainable, low-cost energy storage solutions that reduce reliance on critical raw materials. HighMag complements ANGeLiC's work by diversifying Europe's post-lithium-ion battery technology portfolio.
Other initiatives
Battery 2030+ Initiative
A large-scale, long-term research initiative that brings together key stakeholders in battery research and development across Europe. The initiative works to develop innovative, sustainable battery technologies that support the European Green Deal, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan. ANGeLiC actively contributes to Battery 2030+'s Excellence Seminars through three dedicated webinars, shares open-access publications with the R&I community, and participates in networking events including the Battery Innovation Days. ANGeLiC also provides input to Battery 2030+'s long-term research roadmap, particularly regarding lithium-sulphur battery technologies and emerging solutions for sustainable mobility.
Batt4EU – Batteries European Partnership Association
Co-programmed European Partnership for an Industrial Battery Value Chain under Horizon Europe. The partnership aims to establish a world-leading, sustainable, and circular European battery value chain, supporting Europe's strategic autonomy and the transition to climate neutrality by 2050. Batt4EU coordinates research and innovation efforts across the battery ecosystem, from materials to manufacturing and recycling. The ANGeLiC project directly contributes to Batt4EU's mission, reporting on its results to support the monitoring of Batt4EU's key performance indicators (KPIs) and participates in common information, clustering, and dissemination activities to increase visibility and synergies between relevant Horizon Europe projects.
SOLID4B Cluster
ANGeLiC belong to the The SOLID4B Cluster that brings together European Horizon Europe battery projects to enhance research synergies and translate research data into valuable knowledge for diverse stakeholders. The cluster synchronises and jointly promotes R&D activities in advanced battery technologies for electric vehicles, facilitating knowledge sharing through workshops, webinars, and collaborative activities. By fostering cross-project collaboration, SOLID4B strengthens Europe's position in next-generation battery development and supports the broader goals of sustainable mobility and energy transition.
